Your Guide to Farmers Markets
In Davidson, the downtown farmers market is only a year old. But it’s already well-established, with vendors’ tents lining a path behind the shops on Main Street while people stroll with their dogs and shop.
In Matthews, shoppers come out so early that market manager Pauline Wood has to ring an opening bell at 7:15 a.m. to keep farmers from getting swamped.
Near Ballantyne, the new development of CedarWalk already has a market with more than 40 vendors, plus Twitter feeds.
Does anyone doubt that our region really loves farmers markets?
Our annual list of farmers markets has 40 locations this year. Can’t make it on a Saturday morning? There are evening markets and weekday markets. Work uptown? The Center City Green Market is open Tuesdays-Saturdays at The Square. If you live or work in Cabarrus County, the Piedmont Farmers Market has six locations that cover every day except Friday and Sunday.
Our list of markets will be posted online through the summer, with individual maps to lead the way.
Also online: A video made late last summer by photographer Gary O’Brien, to show you what you can expect to find as the season goes on.
If you haven’t found a way to make a farmers market a part of your life, there’s only have one question: What are you waiting for?
