Davidson Farmer’s Market Set To Bloom For Season Two
(Davidson, NC) April 14, 2009 — With a market manager in place and all vendors
secured, the Davidson Farmer’s Market is poised for opening day of its second
season on Saturday, May 2nd in conjunction with Davidson Town Day. Opening
day activities include music by The Generals, market “tours” and “Find the
Farmer” scavenger hunt for kids.
In addition to offering producer-only, locally grown food this season, market
organizers are planning themed market days, guest chef cooking
demonstrations, educational activities, and more. According to Carol Mayes,
DFM Chair, “Our goal is to provide a fun, community gathering place that will
help sustain our farmers, our community and the environment.”
Market organizers aim to provide an abundance of local farm-produced items
with 75% of product being foods and plants; including fruits, vegetables, meats,
eggs, honey, dairy and fresh flowers while offering a 25% balance of baked
goods, canned goods and non-food items; such as soaps, lotion and farmermade
crafts.
Applying this formula, the DFM has added five new vendors this season
including: Bradford Farm, summer produce; Cackleberrry Farm, artisan cows’
milk cheese; Calico Farmstead Cheese, fresh and aged cows’ milk cheese;
Correll Farm, fruits and vegetables; and Grow it Greener Farm, heirloom
tomatoes, microgreens and more.
Returning Founding Farmers include New Moon Farm Organic; Grateful Growers
Farm; Barbee Farm; Wild Turkey Farms; Bird Brain Ranch; Henry’s Wholesome
Foods; The Lavender Garden; Big Jim’s Produce; Half Moon Gardens; KC Farm;
Fisher Farms; Twin Oaks Farm; Hippie Kitchen; By Lucille, Artisan Baker; the
Farm at Weathers Creek; Herr Fresh Flowers; Houston Produce; Lockman’s
Muscadine Vineyards; Mood Indigo Soaps; Daddy’s Girl Dairy; Elliot Apiary;
Betty Brown’s Daylilies; and Mary Howard’s Garden.
“We are continually striving to provide the community of farmers and citizens with
a market that they will want to return to week after week,” said Market Manager,
Mary Jane Leach.
